Bob Suter Memorial Classic helps kids in hockey

The third Bob Suter Memorial Classic on Friday, Aug. 4 raised money to buy hockey equipment starter kits for youth players. Here's how it looked and some thoughts from former Badgers players.

Former University of Wisconsin and Madison Capitols players and others with connections to area hockey came together Friday night to keep building what Bob Suter started.

How NHL veteran Ryan Suter is helping get more kids involved in hockey

Suter, a former Badgers and U.S. Olympic player who died in 2014, was a "giver," his son Ryan said before the third annual Bob Suter Memorial Classic. The game raised money to support the Bob Suter Memorial Fund, which buys starter sets of hockey equipment to help kids get into the game.

NHL players Brian Elliott, Joe Pavelski, Nick Schmaltz, Jake McCabe and Ryan Poehling joined Ryan Suter for Friday's event, which also featured an autograph session. Current Badgers men's and women's players also took part, with Jack Horbach scoring in a shootout to give Team Navy a victory against Team Gold.
