Splash pad Akron Ohio: Where to find one in the area amid high temps

With Greater Akron temperatures forecasted to be in the 90s Friday, it is a good time to find a way to be beat the heat and have a bit of fun along the way.

Splash parks in the region offer a free way to cool off and let the kids and parents have some fun too.

There's a heat advisory in effect on Friday with a high of 95 degrees expected with the real-feel temperature of 100 or above.

Many communities in and around Akron have installed splash pads in parks that are typically free and offer a variety of spray elements to cool off.

Most spray parks are open seven days a week with a typical start time of 9 a.m. to noon and shut down before sunset.

Some are also turned off during inclement weather.

The city-run attractions use chlorinated water and have filtering systems to ensure the water is safe for kids to play in.

Akron has a number of splash pads, including a new one in Firestone Park. They are free and open from noon to 7 p.m. daily. They are located at the Joy Park Community Center Splash Pad, 825 Fuller St., Firestone Park Community Center, 1480 Girard St. and Patterson Park Community Center, 800 Patterson Ave.

Aurora has its splash pad in its Kiwanis-Moore Park, 35 W. Pioneer Trail.

Barberton has a free spray park in the city's Edgewood Park, 1170 Liberty Ave.

Cuyahoga Falls offers a number of wading pools in its parks. The locations include: Lions Park, Linden Park, Indian Mountain Park, Quirk Cultural Center, Valley Vista and Oak Park. The city also has a large interactive fountain in its Falls River Square downtown.

Green is home to one of the region's biggest splash pads. The city's splash pad at Central Park is located at 1795 Steese Road.

Hudson has a splash park located at Veterans Way Park, 55 Veterans Way.

Medina has two splash pads. One is located in Fred Greenwood Park, 333 W. Sturbridge Drive, the other in Ray Mellert Park, with an entrance on North Huntington St.

Wooster has a splash park located at Knights Field Park, 701 Rebecca St.
